M. Kraus del. / C. Schule sculps. Lips.". Lower middle inscribed in the printing plate: "I.C. MUSAEUS". Lower right dated: "1788". Date: 1788 Description: Engraving on paper, engraved by Albrecht Schule after a model by Georg Melchior Kraus (c. 1733 Frankfurt am Main - 1806 Weimar). This portrait of the writer and literary critic as well as satirical and popular narrator of the Enlightenment Johann Karl August Musäus (1735 Jena - Weimat 1787), engraved one year after his death, commemorates the late literary 'all-round talent'. In addition to his literary activities, he taught and dealt with language.
