      Watercolour, “Square in Gardone“, H. Schultze-Froitzheim, 1936

      Est: €1,600 - €2,000

Watercolour on laid paper Italy, 1936 Hannes Schultze-Froitzheim (1904-1995) – German painter and graphic artist Square in Gordone Riviera, on the west bank of Lake Garda Monogrammed lower right, “SF” Location inscribed on the back High artistic quality Dimensions: 25 x 36 cm Very good condition This highly accomplished watercolour of Lake Garda came into being during the first trip to Italy of the German painter and graphic artist Hannes Schultze-Froitzheim (1904-1995) in the 1930s. Schultze-Froitzheim was a master student of the expressionists Heinrich Campendonk and Heinrich Nauen. The beautiful watercolour presents a view to a square in Gardone Riviera on the west bank of Lake Garda nearby Salò. The artist has deliberately avoided an intense wet-on-wet technique and sparely applied the brush on the dry laid paper. The composition is divided in individual segments, offset against one another through the vegetation. Through this, Schulze-Froitzheim creates a playful lightness with southern verve, resembling Heinrich Campendonk in its expressive formulation and Raoul Dufy in its spontaneity. The painting is in very good condition. It is monogrammed lower right, “SF”, and the location is in scribed on the back. The dimensions are 25 x 36 cm. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance. Auctionata charges the resale rights tax pursuant to Section 26 of the German Copyright Act (UrhG) towards the buyer in case of the sale of an original work of art or photography prior to 70 years having lapsed since the death of their creator. Therefore, Auctionata charges when purchasing a good – if a protection as an original work of art or photography is given – starting from a hammer price of EUR 400 an additional amount, which is calculated according to Section 26 (2) German Copyright Act (UrhG) and which does not exceed the amount of EUR 12,500.
