Notes: The 3 drawings by Shcultz included here were probably framed together and have a same sized passe-partout, which is also glued together back and front. The drawings are most probably not the same size and continue underneath the passe-partout. The drawings are heavily oxidized. Unfortunately, the procedure of separating the drawings from the passe-partout is lengthy and complicated. We are prepared to offer the the service (not including payment) of removing the passe-partout by our paper conservator Noa Cahaner.

Schulz, Bruno 1892 Drohobycz, Austria-Hungary - 1942 Drohobycz, Poland poetic scene with nude mixed media (ink, charcoal, graphite) on gray paper.. Well-1930s. In ink signed and not completely legible dated u.re .; in Lead signed u.li. In Passepartout. 29.8 x 21 cm; PP 49.5 x 39.3 cm. Eckabrisse o. And u. re. Former three inputs and demolitions o.li., fully restored them. Prov .: privately owned Northern Germany, found there in the estate in a book unrestored, art trade northern Germany, Dresden art trade is a common thread, the motif of the female nude runs through the drawings and printmaking work of Bruno Schulz. In exciting possible compositions - as a counterpoint to a clothed group, as an interlocutor in an absurd situation or as an object of lust act is particularly common to the central image object. Again, the character is worthy of discussion - in the midst of a disinterested group shines the bright figure and is still ignored by the environment. Instead, the leaden eyes of bystanders seem to an event at some distance below the group to be addressed, so that the presumption lies close, the scene playing on a balcony or terrace. The caricature-absurdity of the scene keeps the songs in similar proximity to other sketches Schulze that address the poetic game with realities and surrealities. Bruno Schulz, Polish, 1892-1942, well printed museum reproductions on art paper accompanying a checklist of works from a 1973 exhibition in Poland. Roth an major admirer of the artist. PROVENANCE: given to Roth by Joanna Clark of Princeton, the spouse of the late Blair Clark, a journalist, CBS network executive and avowed "left wing" Democrat . each sheet 11.25 x 8.25, framed pieces 11.5 x 10 or the reverse Property from the estate of Philip Roth. Philip Roth was born in Newark New Jersey on 19 March, 1933. The second child of second-generation Americans Bess and Herman Roth, Roth grew up in the largely Jewish community of Weequahic, a neighborhood that he was to return to time and again in his writing. After graduating from Weequahic High School in 1950, he attended Bucknell University, Pennsylvania and the University of Chicago where he received a scholarship to complete his M.A. in English Literature. In 1959, Roth published Goodbye Columbus - a collection of stories and a novella for which he received the National Book Award. Ten years later, the publication of his fourth novel Portnoy's Complaint brought Roth both critical and commercial success, firmly securing his reputation as one of America's finest young writers. Roth was the author of thirty-one books including those that were to follow the fortunes of Nathan Zuckerman and a fictional narrator narrator named Philip Roth through which he explored and gave voice to the complexities of the American experience in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Roth's lasting contribution to literature was widely recognized in his lifetime, both in the United States and abroad. Among other commendations he was the recipient of the Pulitzer Prize, the International Man Booker Prize, twice the winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award and the National Book Award and presented with the National Medal of Arts and the National Humanities Medal by Presidents Clinton and Obama respectively.
