      Schulz, Leopold: Illustration zu Goethes "Geistesgruß" Der Geist des Helden auf den Zinnen der Burg Lahneck bei Oberlahnstein: Illustration zu Goethes Gedicht "Geistesgruß". Aquarell. 29,9 x 22,1 cm. Unten rechts signiert und datiert "Leopold Schulz 1842". Leopold Schulz studierte zunächst an der Wiener Akademie, bevor er seine Ausbildung in München bei Peter Cornelius und Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld fortsetzte. Die Jahre von 1830 -1833 verbrachte er in Rom. Ab 1844 unterrichtete Schulz an der Wiener Akadamie und führte gemeinsam mit Moritz von Schwind die Fresken in Schloß Rüdigsdorf bei Altenburg aus. In diesem Aquarell übersetzt er das 12-zeilige Gedicht "Geistesgruß" von Goethe ganz exakt in eine bildliche Form. An den Ecken alte auf einen Untersatzkarton montiert, darauf in einer Hand des 19. Jh. das Gedicht Goethes in Bleistift vermerkt.
