Loretto, also Maria-Loretto, is a small peninsula on Lake Wörthersee in Klagenfurt's east bay. Schuster depicted the view from this vantage point several times in his works. Provenance: private possession Klagenfurt. Condition report: Good overall impression. Stretcher slightly pushing through to recto, support minimally undulated, margins slightly rubbed from framing, overpainting in the sky (H 18, W 36,5) and lower middle, here and there small scratches (approx. 1 to 5 cm), isolated tiny stains (approx. 2 to 6 mm). DEUTSCH: Schuster, Karl Maria 1871 Purkersdorf - 1953 Wien. «Loretto». Blick auf den Wörthersee. Öl auf Leinwand. U.l. sign., 1905 dat. und bet. Verso auf der Rahmenrückseite ein gedrucktes Etikett 1906 dat. und «71F» num. sowie Reste eines weiteren Etiketts bez. «[..]72». H. 75,5, B. 105 cm (Bildträger). Prunkrahmen. Loretto, auch Maria-Loretto, ist eine kleine Halbinsel im Wörthersee in der Klagenfurter Ost-Bucht. Schuster hat den Ausblick von diesem Standpunkt mehrmals in seinen Werken abgebildet. Provenienz: Privatbesitz Klagenfurt. Zustandsbericht: Guter Gesamteindruck. Keilrahmen leicht nach recto durchdrückend, Bildträger min. wellig, Bildränder rahmungsbedingt leicht ber., Übermalung im Himmel (H. 18, B. 36,5) und Mitte u., stellenweise kl. Kratzer (ca. 1 bis 5 cm), vereinzelt winzige Flecken (ca. 2 bis 6 mm).

Karl Maria Schuster was during the First World War active as a war painter; this was compared to the normal soldier service; a privileged status. Val Sadole was a valley on the Isonzo front; where for many years a grueling and exhausting position war was held on mountain peaks. The extremely high numbers of victims were not only due to the bombardment but also due to the weather; avalanches and muds. Nevertheless Karl Maria Schuster was able to find a contemplative; quiet and friendly landscape presentation with an accentuated light-dark contrast and skilful lighting control. The color surface is minimally discolored due to age and shows two small areas of retouching to the sky. The dimensions of the stretcher are 52 x 64.5 cm, and the wooden frame measures 62 x 73 cm. Karl Maria Schuster (1871-1953) From 1887 to 1896, Karl Maria Schuster studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. He then undertook numerous study trips. In 1902, he was admitted to the Vienna Künstlerhaus. During the First World War, he worked as a war artist. (cko) Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance. The color surface is minimally discolored due to age and shows two small areas of retouching to the sky. The dimensions of the stretcher are 52 x 64.5 cm, and the wooden frame measures 62 x 73 cm. Karl Maria Schuster (1871-1953) From 1887 to 1896, Karl Maria Schuster studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. He then undertook numerous study trips. Depicted is a thriving cottage garden in Krumpendorf near the Austrian lake Wörthersee. The yellow and pink flowers effectively stand out against the background which is executed in rich green colors. Furthermore the painter created a charming light effect achieved by the incidence of the light in between the trees of the image background. The painting is signed in red 'Karl M. Schuster', dated '1929' and inscribed 'Krumpendorf'. It is in very good condition with no findings under UV-light. The painting is offered unframed. The dimensions of the panel are 38.5 x 54 cm. Karl Maria Schuster(1871-1953) Karl Maria Schuster was born in 1871 in the Austrian town Purkersdorf. He studied from 1887 to 1896 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and in the beginning of the 20th century became a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus. During World War I he worked as a war painter but moreover he created many portraits of women in interiors as well as landscapes.
