Paul Schutzer Sold at Auction Prices

b. 1930 - d. 1967

At the age of ten years, the New York-born American photographer Paul Schutzer began to photograph his surroundings with a camera he had found in a waste bin. He first studied painting, then law, before he decided to make photography his profession. Since 1956 Schutzer worked for the famous magazine "Life" and photographed personalities such as Eisenhower, Nixon and Kennedy. In 1959 he was awarded seven American photographic awards. The cover "The Blunt Reality of War in Vietnam" of a Life issue in 1965 made him famous. Two years later Paul Schutzer died, when he accompanying Israeli troops as a photojournalist in the Six-Day War.
