Valsuani" on the back of the terrace. Height : 62 cm Note: Raphaël Schwartz, known as Raphaël-Schwartz, was a sculptor of Lithuanian origin who trained in Paris, where he studied at the Académie Julian. Active during the first half of the twentieth century, he is renowned for his figurative sculptures celebrating the beauty of the human body, often imbued with softness and realism. Collaborating with prestigious foundrymen such as Valsuani, his works reflect a constant search for balance between naturalism and artistic emotion. His mastery of modelling and elegant posture reflect Raphaël-Schwartz's artistic sensibility.

Œuvre en rapport - Une version en bronze dédicacée est reproduite dans Bartholomé, la redécouverte d’un grand sculpteur, Thérèse de Burollet, 2017, p. 311 (fig. 169). - Une estampe au portrait d’Albert Bartholomé probablement préparatoire à la sculpture, avant 1912, signée par Raphaël Schwartz est conservé au Musée du Petit Palais à Paris (inv. PPG1679). Historique Né en 1874 à Kiev, il part pour Paris en 1892 et entre à l'École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts où il expose dans les nombreux salons parisiens comme le Salon d’Automne, le Salon des Indépendants, le Salon de Tuileries et le Salon de Beaux-Arts. En 1912, Schwartz réalise une série de portraits comprenant celui d’André Gide, d’Émile Verhaeren, d’Auguste Rodin, d’Henri Bergson ou encore de Claude Debussy dans un ouvrage intitulé “Quelques Hommes” (1920), tiré à seulement 100 exemplaires et préfacé par Anatole France. Dans cet ouvrage, il y représente le Portrait d’Albert Bartholomé, profil droit, dédicacé « Hommage respectueux au Maître A. Bartholomé ». Dans ce portrait, le sculpteur Bartholomé est vêtu du même habit dans lequel Schwartz a décidé de le représenter en ronde-bosse. L’importance de ce bronze, par sa taille et sa rareté, puisque seulement deux exemplaires sont connus à ce jour, est un témoignage de la profonde reconnaissance que Schwartz avait pour son maître Albert Bartholomé.
