MASSIMO SCOLARI (Liguria, Italy, 1943) for GIORGETTI. Italy, 1990s. Desk "ZENO". Beech wood and rubber top. Table top with light marks of use.

        Est: €2,500 - €2,600

MASSIMO SCOLARI (Liguria, Italy, 1943) for GIORGETTI. Italy, 1990s. Desk "ZENO". Beech wood and rubber top. Table top with light marks of use. Measurements: 62 x 160 x 80 cm. Desk or office table designed by the Italian Massimo Scolari for Giorgetti. This 1994 model, named Zeno, has a solid and polished beech wood structure, with a natural varnish and is completed with a black liquid rubber top. The modern aesthetic is provided by the asymmetrical design, with inverted legs. The legs also feature small details in solid ebony, as well as anodized aluminum protectors to prevent knocks. It is ideal for any contemporary setting, with a luxurious style. The liquid rubber top has light traces of use. About Massimo Scolari (1943-): Massimo Scolari, a renowned Italian-born designer, graduated in architecture in Milan in 1969, and soon began his career as a professor of History of Architecture at the University of Palermo and History and Technique of Drawing at the University Institute of Architecture in Venice. He worked at several other universities, including Cornell University, Cooper Union N.Y., Institute for Architecture and Urban Studies N.Y., Technische Universität Vienna, Harvard University, Cambridge, and since 2006 he has been a visiting professor at the Yale School of Architecture. He is especially admired for his surrealist-influenced designs, inspired by authors such as Salvador Dali and Yves Tanguy, who promoted the concept of "illogical" design. He has exhibited in Europe, Japan, Russia and the United States. His works are in the permanent collections of the MoMa (New York), the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tehran, the Deutsches Architektur Museum (Frankfurt) and the Centre Pompidou (Paris). He realized installations for the Venice Biennials of 1980, 1984, 1991, 1996 and 2004 and at the Milan Triennials of 1973 and 1986. In 2014 he received the Arnold W. Brunner Memorial Prize in Architecture, awarded by the American Academy of Arts and Letters in New York.

(Novi Ligure 1943) Caricature of Carlo Scarpa. Asol, 1971. Crete hand-modeled and colored. Signed with engraved monogram and dated "XII 71" underneath the base. (13.5x10x10 cm.) "The clay sculpture (13.5x10x10 cm) was modeled by the painter and designer Massimo Scolari (1943) in December 1971, on the occasion of an interview with the renowned architect Carlo Scarpa (1906-1978) at his studio in Asolo (Treviso). This interview served for the first biography of Carlo Scarpa, the Venetian architect, published in the magazine 'Controspazio,' issue 3-4, March-April 1972, pp. 2-85. The idea arose from the inspiration of a terracotta portrait of Scarpa created by his friend the sculptor Arturo Martini. Here, with deliberate caricature, the aspect of a pencil holder is highlighted because Scarpa's almost maniacal behavior, often declared by the master himself, was well-known: 'sharpening the pencil' was like the initiation act into the project and the profession of an architect. The privately-owned work was exhibited for the first time alongside other drawings in the exhibition 'Carlo Scarpa after Carlo Scarpa' at the University of Architecture in Venice, June 14 - September 30, 2016." Prof. Manlio Brusatin IT Caricatura di Carlo Scarpa. Asolo, 1971. Creta modellata e colorata a mano.
