The works by David Seltzer have a foreboding and layered quality due to the heavy manipulation of both the negative and print. At once intimate and provocative, Seltzer walks the tightrope between other and self, darkness and lightness. In this particular work, the subjects’ faces are cloaked in shadow while their bodies and the physical act they are committing are bathed in light from overhead. This dualism pervades much of Seltzer’s work as he constantly copes with both reality and fantasy.
