      Willy Semm, Spätsommerliche Erntelandschaft Kornnocken auf einem Stoppelfeld, unter grünenden Bäumen in flacher Landschaft, stilistisch zeigt sich bei diesem Werk, wohl der 1930er bis frühen 1940er Jahre, wie Semm von seiner ursprünglich expressionistischen Auffassung unter den Bedingungen der NS-Diktatur zu einer realistischeren, eher postimpressionistischen Darstellung gelangte, Öl auf Leinwand, rechts unten signiert "Will Semm", kleine vereinzelte Retuschen im Bereich des Blätterwerks, versilberter Rahmen der Zeit, Falzmaße ca. 54,5 x 65 cm. Künstlerinfo: auch Willi Semm, dt. Maler, Zeichner und Graphiker (1888 Leipzig bis 1964 Leipzig), studierte bei Walter Tiemann an der Akademie für graphische Künste und Buchgewerbe zu Leipzig und bei Emil Orlik an der Staatlichen Lehranstalt des Kunstgewerbemuseums in Berlin, ab 1911 freischaffend in Leipzig, schuf 1915 Beiträge für die von Paul Cassirer herausgegebenen Künstlerflugblätter "Kriegszeit", 1929–31 Studienreisen nach Oberitalien, Frankreich, Spanien, Teneriffa und Tunis, tätig im Verein Leipziger Jahresausstellungen, Mitglied des Verbandes Bildender Künstler (VBK) der DDR, Werke befinden sich im Besitz des Museums der bildenden Künste Leipzig und des Staatlichen Lindenau-Museums Altenburg, 1945 zeitweise in Grauschwitz und Oschatz ansässig, tätig in Leipzig, Quelle: Eisold "Künstler in der DDR", Vollmer, Dressler und Internet. Artist information: also Willi Semm, German painter, draughtsman and graphic artist. In the Third Reich classified as ‘degenerate’, the works of this generation are very popular today. The present oil painting by Semm shows the Madonna with the Child in her arms and the boy St. John behind her. In her hand, she holds a flower, a Marian icon. The head of the Madonna and her long neck is reminiscent of representations of the Italian Renaissance artist Parmigianino, for instance the ‘Madonna della Rosa’ from Condition: The painting is overall in good condition considering its age. The cardboard is slightly warped. Inspection under UV light reveals areas of retouching along the edges and some small touch-ups within the depiction. The image dimensions are 40.7 x 37,7 cm, and the overall dimensions, including the frame, are 47.3 x 43.1 cm. Willy Semm (1888-1964) Willy Semm was active as a painter and graphic artist in Leipzig. He studied with Walter Tiemann at the local Academy and then in Berlin with Emil Orlik. Until his death, he was a freelance artist in Leipzig. His favorite subjects were female nude representations, forest and riparian landscapes, city views and flower still lifes in an expressive manner.
