        TWO 18TH/19TH CENTURY CORNELIS NOZEMAN/JAN CHRISTIAAN SEPP BIRD ENGRAVINGS FROM NEDERLANDSCHE VOGELEN. Amsterdam, Christiaan Sepp 1770-1829. Two matted, of the period engravings from Birds of the Netherlands, consisting of Garrulus (#54324.1) and Caryoatactes (#54330.1), both measuring 20 3/8" high x 14" wide. Each lithograph is accompanied by one page of text from the volume discussing the particular species of bird. ''Cornelius Nozeman (1720– 1786) was a Dutch Remonstrant churchman and naturalist. He was born in Amsterdam, as the son of the composer Jacobus Nozeman. In 1755 he purchased a small publishing business in Haarlem, which he kept on for a few years after leaving Haarlem. It was in Rotterdam that he began preparations for his great work on Nederlandsche Vogelen that was published in installments Nederlandsche vogelen (English: Dutch birds) is a five volume Dutch natural history compendium by Cornelius Nozeman and Christiaan Sepp, published in Amsterdam from 1770. It was published in instalments and was finished in 1829. It was the first comprehensive avifauna of the Netherlands (which temporarily included Belgium during 1815 - 1830). The scientific text in the monumental work was written by Cornelius Nozeman, and following his death by Martinus Houttuyn. The last volume was finished by Jan Sepp, with advice from Coenraad Jacob Temminck. The coloured engravings were all made by Christiaan Sepp, Jan Christiaan Sepp (his son), and Jan Sepp (his grandson).''
