      ART SHAY (1922-2018) Poole's Healing Services, Chicago. Silver print, the image measuring 13 1/2x10 3/8 inches (34.3x26.3 cm.), the sheet slightly larger, the mount 18 1/4x15 1/4 inches (46.3x38.7 cm.), with Shay's signature and negative date in ink on the overmat. 1962; printed late 1970s Art Shay was well-known for the portraits of famous people he made as a photographer for Life, Time, Look, Sports Illustrated, and Fortune magazines, as well as for the images he made in the immediate aftermath of Martin Luther King's assassination. Though he is not known for this work today, Shay was also devoted to documenting his hometown of Chicago. These images complement the political and social figures Shay captured, chronicling something of the social fabric and forces at work during the fraught 1960s.
