David (1931) Shepherd Art for Sale and Sold Prices

Born in 1931 in England, artist David Shepherd became interested in wildlife at a young age.  Hoping to become a game ranger, he traveled to Kenya where he was exposed to its wild life. Unsuccessful in obtaining the job, he started painting. The proceeds from these early David Shepherd drawings and paintings funded his fare back to the U.K. Rejected by the Slade School of Fine Art, Shepherd met Robin Goodwin, a marine and portrait painter, who saw potential and apprenticed him. Paintings and drawings by David Shepherd reflect his passion for detail.  

In 1960, an RAF commission took Shepherd back to Africa to paint wildlife. Many David Shepherd prints for sale depict large elephants as the focal point. Shepherd spent his life supporting wildlife, and was awarded a CBE in 2012 for his conservation work.
