B.1961 UNTITLED (PAPER MOON SERIES) measurements 111.8 by 24 by 84 in. alternate measurements 284 by 61 by 213 cm. paper on wood and fiberglass with glass marbles 1995 EXHIBITED Contemporary Asian Artist II, Fukuoka Asian Art Museum, Japan, September - October 2001. Paper Moon, Pundole Art Gallery, Mumbai, 1995. Paper Moon, Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, 1995. NOTE Shetty's sculptures from the Paper Moon series create surreal combinations of familiar forms in unexpected ways. Inspired by the poem above, the artist plays on notions of reality by fusing together completely unrelated objects - a life size horse covered with pink kite paper balanced on a small boat with a diminutive house on its back - subverting their order and scale and encouraging the viewer to read a new meaning into this fantastical creation. The inclusion of the tap, an everyday object attached to the horse's chest, locates the work in the present and reiterates the sculpture's hollowness and weightlessness, as does the garish pink kite paper with its quintessentially Indian hue.
