The snowy landscape is characterized by three large trees with brownish leaves. The painting has been applied with a broad and dynamic brush stroke. A milky paint layer, which covers the trees, makes the subject appear mysterious. The painting is monogrammed and dated lower right in Cyrillic, ‘ΤШ 81’. It is inscribed in Cyrillic on the reverse ‘Shevchenko/Abend in Arus (?)’ [Evening in Tarussa (?)]. It is mounted in a partly gilt wooden frame and in very good condition with minimal wear. The overall dimensions, with frame, are 58 x 112 cm. The stretcher measures 73 x 100 cm. Tatyana Aleksandrovna Shevchenko (1911-1997) Born in St. Petersburg, the artist Tatyana Aleksandrovna Shevchenko was the daughter of the famous artist Alexandr Shevchenko (1883-1948) and his student. Since 1945, she was a member of the Artists Union of the USSR. She exhibited, amongst others, in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Novosibirsk. Works of the artist are on display in major Russian museum collections, such as the Tretyakov Gallery and the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg.
