        Sir Frank Short (1857-1945) after JMW Turner A 'Liber Studiorum' portfolio of prints, compiled by Alderman Richard Turner (1881-1982), principally including seven hand-signed proof etchings & engravings by Sir Frank Short after Turner, from unpublished drawings for the the Liber Studiorum, depicting Derwentwater, Macon, the Isle of Wight, Stonehenge, The Rhine and The Medway, and a further example 'Aescaus and Hesperie', personally dedicated by Short to H. Watson Smith, each within individual folders inscribed with titles in decorative calligraphic script; together with three further engravings after Turner by Lupton and Charles Turner, all contained within a cloth folder inscribed in ink 'Liber Studiorum / J.M.W. Turner R.A.' within a foliate border Provenance: Alderman Richard Turner (1881-1982), thence by descent Born in Bedford, Richard Turner was elected to the town council in 1945, became Mayor of Bedford in 1950-51 and was granted the Honorary Freedom of the Borough of North Bedfordshire in 1962. He played a key role in the establishment of the Cecil Higgins Museum.

        Property from an English Collection FRANK SHORT (BRITISH 1857-1945) Sunset; Evening coastal scene each signed (lower right) watercolour 22 x 28 cm each (2) PROVENANCE: acquired from Denys Brook-Hart (author/British Marine painters) David Messum Sir Francis Job Frank Short, printmaker, and teacher of printmaking. He revived the practices of mezzotint and pure aquatint while expanding the expressive power of line in drypoint, etching, and engraving. He also wrote about printmaking to educate a wider public and was President of the Royal Society of The Etcher & Engravers (known as The Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers) from 1910 to 1938.
