Silver print collage, the image measuring 228.6x161.9 mm; 9x6 3/8 inches, the sheet slightly larger, with a Shunk-Kender hand stamp, on verso. 1961-63; printed early 1970s. Published: Zabriskie Gallery, Zabriskie Fifty Years, 2004, page 194 (illustrated). Harry Shunk's photographs were exhibited at Zabriskie Gallery, New York, May 17-July 8, 1988 in an exhibition titled "Harry Shunk: Photographs of the Nouveaux Réalistes." Between 1957 and 1987, Harry Shunk and János Kender formed an artistic collaboration (Shunk-Kender). The pair documented artists and exhibitions, capturing decades of rapid shifts in what constituted art, including nouveau réalisme, pop art, minimalism, postminimalism, conceptual art, and performance. This image depicts the artists Christo and Raymond Hains in front of the Eiffel Tower. A wrapped horse is collaged into the image, possibly Hains' work Néodada emballé par Christo, a horse in planks and posters, later wrapped by Christo, which was put on display in front of the Museum of Modern Art in Paris for the 1963 Salon des Comparaisons.

SHUNK-KENDER harry shunk (german, 1924-2006) and jános kender (hungarian, 1938-2009) THREE PHOTOS OF CHRISTO'S WRAPPED COAST, LITTLE BAY, AUSTRALIA 1969. Each with Shunk-Kender credit stamp and title (latter partially obscured by pulled-off tape) in blue ink on verso. Gelatin silver prints. Images: two are approximately 7 5/8 x 10 in. (19.4 x 25.1cm) and one is 5 1/8 x 9 3/4 in. (13 x 24.8cm). Sheet: 8 x 10 1/8 in. (20.3 x 25.7cm) each. Shunk and Kender first shot Christo and Jeanne-Claude's wrapping of the Trocadéro in Paris (1964) then went on to photograph all of their subsequent site-specific projects. For this project, the artists worked with over 100 people for four weeks, wrapping one and a half miles of cliffs with one million square feet of fabric and 35 miles of rope.

A series of 3 vintage gelatin silver prints, each stamped with copyright stamp 'photo and copyright shunk-kender 19 quai aux fleurs paris 4' (on the reverse), image size 23 x 17.4 cm., paper size 24 x 18.5 cm; image size 17.4 x 23 cm., paper size 18.5 x 24 cm.; image size 20 x 17.5 cm., paper size 24 x 18.5 cm. One photo not in the Shunk-Kender Photography Collection, 1958-1973, Roy Liechtenstein Foundation, the others are #18013 and #18020 The collaboration of Shunk-Kender (Harry Shunk and Janos Kender) resulted in a precious series of photographs depicting more than 400 significant artists in their studios. These images serve as historic documentation, often absolutely unique, of the art scene in Paris and later in New York during the period from 1958 to 1973. Photographs by Shunk-Kender are very rarely offered for sale.
