Subject matter features a poorly fed dog sitting in front of 2 well fed dogs who have a covered dish and goblet in front of them, a dog looking confused in the background. This engraving / print was made by British printmaker William Henry Simmons (1811 - 1882) after James Henry Beard (1812 - 1893) ~ American painter. Elected as a member of the National Academy of Design in 1872. Titled "The Prodigal's Return". Good condition. Storage related wear and scuffs to the frame. Dust areas inside the glass where the piece is titled. Measures 28 5/8 in x 34 1/4 in. Work measures 18 3/8 in x 24 3/8 in. Signed ~ printed title lower front center and printed name lower right with date year 1879. MMB Inc will not ship. Gallery will refer a local shipper for international buyers. This Plate from the Original Picture in his Possession presented by The Gentleman of the Hunt. Is respectfully dedicated by His Most Obedient Servants, Graves & Warmsley. London Published June 27, 1842 by Graves and Warmsley Printsellers to Her Majesty & H R R Albert Pall Mall." In wooden, embellished frame. MEASUREMENTS: 18-1/4" x 16-3/4". Overall with frame 38-1/4" x 28". CONDITION: Minor wear throughout frame consistent with handling including chips, scratches, and cracks especially around edges near glass. Minor fading to text consistent with age. Minor yellowing to paper.
