      Mann mit Fackel und historisierendem Gewand vor einem Höhlenausgang, eine ihm entgegenschreitende Frau erschreckend, in diesem Gemälde verschmelzen die Einflüsse der Historienmalerei mit der für die Weimarer Malerschule so typischen Schilderung der Natur, großformatige Arbeit mit lockerem Pinselstrich, Öl auf Leinwand, um 1900, links unten signiert „Smith“, in ca. 15,5 cm breiter, profilierter und schwarz gelackter Holzleiste gerahmt, Falzmaß ca. 91,5 x 117 cm. Künstlerinfo: norwegischer Maler (1859 Oslo bis 1917 Weimar), 1877–80 Arbeit im Zeichenbüro der Trondheimer mechanischen Werkstätten, 1880–84 Studium an der Münchner Kunstakademie bei Ludwig von Löfftz, 1880–1904 Professor an der Kunstschule Weimar, einer seiner bekanntesten Schüler war hier Max Beckmann, Mitglied des Deutschen Künstlerbundes, erhielt 1886 und 1891 die kleine Goldmedaille auf der Berliner Kunstausstellung und 1888 die Wiener Staatsmedaille in Silber, Quelle: Thieme-Becker, Boetticher, AKL, Matrikelbücher der Münchner Akademie und Wikipedia.

The image dimensions are 150 x 175 cm, the frame dimensions 164 x 190 cm. Carl Frithjof Smith (1859-1917) Carl Frithjof Smith was born in Kristiana near Oslo in 1859. In the early 1880s he attended the Munich Academy of Arts, where he studied under Ludwig von Löfftz. In 1890 he became professor at the Art School in Weimar. Some of his paintings are collected in the museums of Leipzig, Weimar and Trieste. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
