He then became the president of The College Board in NYC (for 12 years). The couple were friends of the artist. Smock specialized in woodblock prints and also sculpture. Jijiga is the capital city of Somali Region, Ethiopia.

Signed, titled and numbered 1/50 in pencil, lower margin. Provenance: the collection of George T. Wein, New York (2018); the estate of George T. Wein (2021). A New Orleans native, printmaker Sue Smock's art reflects her long interest in non-Western imagery and techniques. Smock received a BA degree from Oberlin College and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Columbia University. She has had a distinguished career as a printmaker and art professor, in addition to having her work exhibited intenationally. Her prints are in the collections of the Allen Memorial Art Museum, the California African-American Museum, the Amistad Research Center, the New Orleans Museum of Art and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. All proceeds to benefit the Newport Festivals Foundations, Inc., the non-profit organization created by George Wein to carry on the legacy of his Newport Jazz and Newport Folk Festivals.
