In this work Pichot approaches a classic theme in the history of art, the female portrait, from a costumbrist and intimate perspective, presenting the model in an interior, seated in a rocking chair next to a stretcher table, on which a vase stands out. The girl's expression is also very prominent, drawing the viewer's attention to her melancholy gaze and her abstracted gesture. Est: €2,000 - €2,500

RAMÓN PICHOT SOLER (Figueras, Girona, 1924 - Barcelona, 1996). "Nú al sofá". Oil on canvas. With information label on the back of the Sala Parés (Barcelona). Signed in the upper right-hand corner. Measurements: 65 x 81 cm; 82 x 100 cm (frame). Female nude starring a young woman who is shown in profile to the spectator without turning her face towards him. Engrossed in her own thoughts, the model appears reflective and taciturn in such a way that the artist goes beyond the idea of a mere nude and confronts us with a psychological portrait that invites us to reflect on the protagonist and her circumstances. The way in which she has been captured, with her shirt unbuttoned and her legs bent, reveals a great spontaneity in the scene, surely influenced by photography, a common feature in Pichot's work. Trained between Barcelona and Paris, Ramon Pichot belonged to the Colla del Safrà and frequented the circle of Rusiñol and Casas. He soon took part in the Fine Arts Exhibitions in Barcelona in 1894, 1986 and 1898. At the same time, he regularly took part in the annual exhibitions of the Sala Parés, and in 1898 he showed his work at the Salon National in Paris. In 1898 he illustrated the first edition of Rusiñol's "Leaves of Life", and shortly afterwards he travelled with him to Granada. There he produced a series of works that were grouped together in the exhibition "La España vieja" ("Old Spain"), which was held in Barcelona and Madrid in 1899. After settling in Paris, he exhibited with Picasso at the B. Weill gallery in 1902. Weill gallery in 1902, and took part in the Salons des Indépendants, National and Autumn Salons. Until his death he continued to exhibit individually in Paris, Barcelona and Madrid, both paintings and etchings. His 1910 exhibition, which was praised by Apollinaire at the time, was outstanding. He was an early mentor to Salvador Dalí, whom he met in Cadaqués when the latter was only ten years old. Stylistically ambiguous, Ramon Pichot became part of the fully symbolist modernism, but at the beginning of the century his style drifted towards primitivism, influenced by Gauguin. Part of his success abroad was due to his genre, gypsy and seafaring themes. His work can be seen in the MACBA and the Cau Ferrat in Sitges.
