Nach der Auktion: Der Sammler in Betrachtung seiner Neuerwerbungen. Öl auf Holz. 29,8 x 39,8 cm. Der Historien- und Genremaler Carl Johann Spielter ging 1875 nach München. Er begann dort seine Ausbildung an der Königlichen Gewerbeschule bei Ferdinand Barth und setzte sein Studium an der Königlichen Akademie u.a. bei Otto Seitz und Gabriel von Max fort. Seit 1881 studierte Spielter weiter an der Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien, wo er Meisterschüler von Hans Makart wurde. Er blieb fast 10 Jahre in der österreichischen Hauptstadt, gefolgt von zwei Jahren in Berlin, bevor er 1893 nach Bremen zurückkehrte. - Wir bitten darum, Zustandsberichte zu den Losen zu erfragen, da der Erhaltungszustand nur in Ausnahmefällen im Katalog angegeben ist. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalogue.

Condition: The painting is in good condition, showing light craquelure and tiny paint losses. The inspection under UV light reveals a minor touch-up to the man’s head. The frame shows some major losses. The size of the painting is 100 x 125 cm, and the frame measures 128 x 153.5 cm. Carl Johann Spielter (1851-1922) In 1876, Carl Johann Spielter was a commercial apprenticeship in Bremen and Liverpool. He then settled in Munich to study at the School of Applied Arts under the guidance of Ferdinand Barth. He later moved to the Academy where he studied with the Hungarian portrait and history painter Gyula Benczúr, the genre and history painter Otto Seitz and the history painter Gabriel von Max. In 1881, Spielter moved to the Academy in Vienna and became a master student of Hans Makart. His works were very popular during his lifetime and still achieve high prices at international auctions. (cko) Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
