Gary Paul Spinosa Art for Sale at Auction

b. 1947 -

The ceramic sculpture of Gary Spinosa is evocative of ancient idols and totemic ritual. Combining human, animal, and architectural forms, Spinosa seeks to materialize spiritual energy through his mysterious, yet serenely benevolent figures. The Museum’s Life Force of the Fields, an anthropomorphic bust of a bull-like entity, is a relatively early version of an idea that has occupied the artist for a number of years. For Spinosa, the bull, and animals in general, contain the keys to a universal language that unites humanity at its most primal level.

Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Spinosa studied at the Cleveland Institute of Art and Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, where he earned the degree of M.F.A. in 1988. Since the early 1970s, he has participated regularly in group shows, and has had numerous solo exhibitions in Ohio and Pennsylvania. The artist currently resides in Venango, Pennsylvania.
