Jan Jacob Coenraad Spohler Sold at Auction Prices

Landscape painter, b. 1837 - d. 1923

The painter Jan Jacob Coenraad Spohler, was born on October 17, 1837 in Amsterdam. He also died in Amsterdam on December 7, 1923. He lived and worked in his birthplace for most of his life. He was a student and son of J.J. Spohler (1811 - 1866) born in Nederhorst ter Berg in the Netherlands. Spohler senior painted mostly summer and winter landscapes, especially ice cream entertainments with many figures. The young Spohler worked in the same manner, he painted corresponding subjects. He proved himself a very good student. Spohler regularly exhibited his work, including at the Living Masters Exhibitions. Exhibitions of his work were held in Groningen and Rotterdam. J.J.C. Spohler often signed his later work with the name J. Corver Various museums in our country own work by J.J.C. Spohler, including the Haags Gemeentemuseum.
