Paul Stankard Sold at Auction Prices

b. 1943 -

Paul Stankard graduated from the Salem County Vocational Technical Institute, New Jersey, where he earned a diploma in glassblowing technology. After working for ten years in the scientific glass industry, Stankard shifted his career to become a full-time paperweight maker in 1972. He is today one of the most celebrated flame-work artists in this country, having surpassed paperweight making. He is especially well- known for amazingly complex botanical and illusionistic subjects fused within clear glass. Some of the images include miniature human figures that Paul calls root people - of the netherworld that seem to live below his highly imaginative floral, fruit and insect compositions. Numerous collectors and museums of importance own his glass.
