          Est: €6,000 - €7,000

After GUNTA STÖLZL (Munich, 1897-1983) Hamburg x Gunta Stolzl (Bauhaus). Screen-printed wood. Set of 6 skateboards. Limited edition of 100 copies. Measurements: 81 x 20 cm. approx. Set of six skateboard surfaces in which iconic designs of Gunta Stolzl's textiles are reproduced. Gunta Stölzl was a German textile designer and weaver. She was one of the few female teachers at the Bauhaus. She studied at the School of Decorative Arts in Munich from 1914 to 1916, when she left her studies to serve as a volunteer nurse for the Red Cross during World War I. She was one of the few female teachers at the Bauhaus. After the war, in 1919 she attended the preliminary course at the Bauhaus in Weimar under Johannes Itten and in 1920 she became an apprentice in the textile workshop. In Zurich, together with Itten, he organized the Ontos textile workshops. After the Bauhaus moved from Weimar to Dessau in 1925, Stölzl became master of the textile workshop, becoming its director in 1927 for four years. Due to harassment by Nazi sympathizers within the Bauhaus following Stölzl's marriage to the Jewish architect Arieh Sharon, in 1931 the then director, Mies Van der Rohe, requested her resignation. Stölzl then returned to Zurich and founded his own hand-weaving company in Switzerland in collaboration with other Bauhaus alumni. She was a member of the Swiss Werkbund as well as the Society of Swiss Painters, Sculptors and Weavers. She received the Commemorative Diploma of the World Exhibition held in Paris. She worked for the Germanic National Museum and collaborated with prominent architects. Her works are exhibited in several museums, among them the MoMA in New York or the Victoria and Albert in London.
