    James F. Sullivan (British, 1852-1936), lot of thirty-six original pen and ink comic illustrations on artist board, from "Fun" Magazine, circa 1870, several signed "J. F. Sullivan," most signed with monogram, several unsigned, various sizes ranging from 2" h x 1 3/4" w to 2 3/4" h x 8" w, individually matted, unframed; a few drawings with spots of correcting fluid, light soiling and browning; overall near fine but not archivally matted. Provenance: From a Massachusetts estate; Sullivan began drawing for "Fun" magazine, a rival of "Punch," in 1870.

    Collection of items: Condition Note: (i) A pen and ink caricature by James Frank Sullivan (1853-1936) of Sherlock Holmes wearing a long dressing gown, a large curved pipe in his mouth, 2 x 2 1/8 inches, framed and glazed; Sullivan worked for a number of leading periodicals including Strand Magazine from 1891 to 1895 (ii) Advertising Sheet "Baker Street Oriental Depot. 59 Baker Street and Baker Street Bazaar London W", printed in colours, fine crépe paper, c.1898, 12 1/4 x 8 1/2 inches, framed and glazed; together with a photocopy of Kelly'S Directory for 1898 listing the Oriental Depot at 59 Baker Street, "G.F. Grose PRPR" (iii) A programme from the Royal Lyceum Theatre for Charles Frohman's presentation of William Gillette in "Sherlock Holmes" 1901, together with a programme from the Elephant and Castle Theatre London for week commencing Monday 12th October, announcement for October 19th "Mr Charles Frohman will present the thrilling play in four acts entitled Sherlock Holmes from the Lyceum Theatre with all the original scenic production and electrical effects", c.1902 (v) Pen, ink and coloured crayon illustration by Simon Drew (b.1952), entitled "Important Food Events in Literature: Emmenthal by Dear Watson" for "Pie, aaaaaggh (squared) Simon Drew's Book of Food and Drink", published by Antoine Collections Club in 2001, signed and inscribed by the artist, 7 1/4 x 6 1/2 inches, framed and glazed; together with a copy of the published book signed by the artist, and two examples of the illustration as greetings cards [Provenance: Chris Beetles Ltd] (vi) "I don't know about you Watson, but I'm having the Red Herring", pen and ink cartoon by Michael Heath (b.1935), signed by the artist, 7 x 7 3/4 icnhes, framed and glazed (vii) A Polish Film Poster by H.
