          TAGORE (Rabindranath).

          Est: €2,000 - €3,000

Gitanjali. (Song Offerings). A collection of prose translations made by the author from the original bengali. With an Introduction by W. B. Yeats. Londres, The Chiswick Press for The India Society, 1912.

          MAETERLINCK MAURICE: (1862-1949)

MAETERLINCK MAURICE: (1862-1949) Belgian Poet and Playwright. Nobel Prize in Literature 1911. An early interesting A.L.S., M. Maeterlinck, two pages, 8vo, n.p., [Gand], n.d., [1890], to a colleague, in French. Maeterlinck explains to his correspondent his parent´s disagreement referring to his sketch portrait by Minne, and states `I finally send you the sketch. Georges Minne, after keeping it for several days without reporting at all, send it back to me now and tells me that it is not necessary to fix it. But it happens that my parents, after I showed them the drawing, want to absolutely forbid me to publish it (if it ever was the case) as it is now, because they believe I look too much in a way I shouldn´t.´ further saying `..make it, if possible, and giving them this small satisfaction, looking a little bit more distinguished.. which they claim!´ On a post-scriptum, Maeterlinck concludes `I have just sent to Verlaine the 3 books´. A letter of very good association. VG £100-120 George Minne (1866-1941) Belgian Artist and Sculptor. Paul Verlaine (1844-1896) French Poet. Considered one of the greatest French poets. The three books Maeterlinck refers to in the present letter are most probably Serres Chaudes (1889), La Princesse Maleine (1889) (Princess Maleine) and Les Aveugles (1890) (The Blind).

I early understood the truth that peace and light came from within and were independent of the world’s verdict,” Gandhi to Jones, 18 January 1928. A correspondence to missionary and evangelist E. Stanley Jones, documenting the interfaith dialogue in India during the frst decades of the 20th century. Jones lectured widely throughout India and counted Gandhi, Tagore, Jawaharlal Nehru, and others among his friends. Gandhi writes on civil disobedience and his eforts toward Indian independence: “I can only say that my heart is absolutely open. I have no axes to grind. I want to fnd truth – to see God face to face. It will be a mistake to suppose that my people – the mass – have missed my message but if they have I should be unconcerned. If the whole world accepted my message that would be no proof of its truth as it is intrinsically untrue. I early understood the truth that peace and light came from within and were independent of the world’s verdict. So please come whenever you the time.” Tagore writes in reference to available ashrams and Singh regarding upcoming trips to Tibet. E.
