James Earl Taylor American, 1839-1901 Haywagon in the South Signed J. E. Taylor (ll) Graphite pencil on paper 15 7/8 x 19 3/4 inches Provenance: Kennedy Galleries, Inc., New York James Earl Taylor enlisted in the Tenth New York Infantry (National Zouaves) in 1861. While a soldier, he sent his battlefield drawings to Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper, and he was hired by the newspaper when he left military service. It is not known whether this evocative drawing of rural Southern life was intended for publication. C
