      Est: $1,000 - $2,000

Marjan Teeuwen (Dutch, b. 1953) Verwoest Huis Piet Mondriaanstraat 1 (Destroyed House, Piet Mondrian Street 1), 2011 Digital pigment print 16 x 33-3/4 inches (40.6 x 85.7 cm) (image/sheet) Ed. 6/10 Signed in ink on artist's label on the reverse: M Teeuwen LITERATURE: M. Teeuwen, Marjan Teeuwen: Works. MMII-XI, Ten Brink, 2011, p. 28-29, illustrated. Trained as a chemist before turning to art, Marjan Teeuwen uses her analytical skills to create remarkable images through the precise coordination of colors, textures, shape, and scale. In this work, she received permission to "reorder" an apartment that was being demolished on Piet Mondrian Street in the Netherlands. Over many hours, Teeuwen sorted the debris by shape, size, texture, and color and then reconfigured the apartment into the forms of a circle and square against a rectangular grid in tribute to her famous countryman Piet Mondrian (1882-1944). Mondrian's revolutionary use of pure geometry in the early 20th century transformed modern art and his influence reverberates in this striking image. HID01801242017
