        Est: €8,000 - €12,000

Pre-Rembrandtist, c. 1630 The Prophet Elijah and the Widow of Sarepta, oil on panel, 34.3 x 46.7 cm, framed, (Wo) This painting was originally attributed to Jan Tengnagel (1584 - 1635), a Dutch painter active in Amsterdam in the early 17th century. An alternative attribution to his brother-in-law Jan Pynas (c. 1583-1631) has been suggested as well. However, Astrid and Christian Tumpel believe that the artist of the present work was a forerunner of Rembrandt. They intend to include the present painting in their forthcoming publication Rembrandt, His Teachers and His Contemporaries, as well as in their second edition of The Pre-Rembrandtists.
