Terry fecit Roma 1864, l.r.; in original carved gilt wood period frame, bears label Francesco Samasca Milanest 'Doratore' Roma; 36 x 36 inches; framed: 52 x 52 inches Other Notes: Luther Terry was born in 1813 in Enfield, Connecticut and studied art in Hartford. In 1838, he moved to Italy where he studied art at Academia Delle Belle Arti in Florence. He moved to Rome in 1839, where he set up permanent residence. At 48 years old, Terry married Louisa Crawford, the widow of sculptor Thomas Crawford and the mother of then three year old F. Marion Crawford.
