La responsabilità autoriale a Pietro è apocrifa anche se a lui si deve certamente l'invenzione. Bella impressione nel II stato di 2 con l'indirizzo del De Rossi e la firma, su carta vergellata lievemente spessa con filigrana "fiore di giglio su tre monti in cerchio singolo sormontato da lettera M" (Woodward, 113. Orvieto s.d.). In alcuni esemplari di I stato al margine in basso a destra ancora parzialmente leggibile la scritta "P. Testa pinxit. J: Cesare T[esta] Fe". (1)

Giovanni Cesare Testa, L'educazione di Achille. 1650-1655. Acquaforte. mm 270x404. Cropper, 120. Da un'invenzione di Pietro Testa. La storia della vita del semidio re dei Mirmidoni, era stata ampiamente illustrata nell'antichità, e Testa sicuramente per il suo progetto sulle vicende di Achille si ispirò allo studio dei rilievi antichi, in particolare sembra aver avuto presente il rilievo del IV secolo d.C. allora conservato in Santa Maria in Aracoeli a Roma (ora al Museo Capitolino), in cui compaiono molte delle scene da lui illustrate. Buona prova su carta vergellata lievemente spessa con filigrana "fiore di giglio su tre monti in cerchio singolo sormontato da lettera M" (Woodward, 113). (1)

Sulla lastra in basso da sinistra a destra "Gio: Jacomo de Rossi formis Romae alla Pace" e a seguire "PTL pinxit. Jo: Caesar. Testa Inc.". Più sotto a destra "Pietro Testa Inventor". Dell'invenzione di Pietro resta un disegno per l'intera composizione presso la Graphische Sammlung dell'Albertina (inv.1079 / Cropper, 113a). Cristo bambino tiene in mano una croce di canna, che il Battistino indica per ricordare che la Via Crucis è iniziata con la fuga in Egitto, nel mentre calpesta la testa del drago dell'eresia e del male. Kaiser Titus befreit auf einem Zuge nach Jerusalem den Propheten Basilides. Radierung, nach Pietro Testa. 37,8 x 69,5 cm. Um 1650. Nagler 7; siehe Cropper S. 240-241. Wz. Fleur-de-lis im Doppelkreis. Ausgezeichneter, nuancenreicher Druck mit breitem, in den Seiten mit schmalem Rand. Übliche vertikale Mittelfalte, weiße Eckenspitze oben rechts minimal brüchig, minimale Randläsuren (diese überwiegend professionell ausgebessert), gelöschte Bleistiftannotation im weißen Rand unten rechts, geringfügig angestaubt entlang der äußeren Ränder, sonst - auch in Anbetracht der Größe - in sehr schöner Erhaltung. Sehr selten.
