      Henri TESTELIN Le Jeune (Paris, 1616 - La Haye, 1695) Portrait du roi Louis XIV Huile sur toile (Restaurations) Portrait of King Louis XIV, oil on canvas, by H.Testelin the Younger 50 x 37.40 in. 128.0 x 96.0 cm Provenance : Vente anonyme ; Prato, Farsetti, 11 mai 1996, n° 449 (vendu 35 216 €) Henri Testelin, l’un des douze fondateurs de l’Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture en 1648, réalisa plusieurs portraits du monarque pendant sa longue carrière. Il accompagna ainsi le passage du roi, de l’âge d’enfant 1 à celui de roi soleil, guerrier tenant en respect l’Europe entière, comme l’exprime si bien ses traits dans le portrait que nous présentons ici. Protestant, Louis Testelin quitta la France pour la Hollande après l’édit de Fontainebleau de 1685 qui révoqua l’Edit de Nantes. Notre portrait fut très probablement réalisé peu de temps avant ce départ et doit être replacé dans le contexte de la trêve de Ratisbonne, signée en 1684 avec l’empereur Léopold Ier ; qui assure à la France la jouissance de territoires conquis pendant la précédente guerre de Hollande (1672-1678). 1 – En 2015 le palais du Tau à Reims faisait l’acquisition d’un portrait en pied du jeune roi âgé de 10 ans environ (Vente anonyme ; Paris, FL Auction, Hôtel Drouot, 25 mars 2015, huile sur toile, 155 x 102 cm.)
