Octavo, later edition, ffep with trompe l'oeil presentation inscription to American ornithologist Bradford Torrey (1843-1912) appearing as a note decorated with red seaweed laid over a pine branch, "with the friendship born of sympathy in 'things that lie deeper than words, deeper than thoughts,' these few margins have been penciled. Louisa C. Richardson, Pine Lodge, Christmas 1896"; with added marginal watercolors on seventeen pages, depicting the subjects of the poems and including landscapes, seascapes, boats, flowers, seaweed, seashells, and other scenes of nature; bound in publisher's cloth, stamped decoratively in gilt, spine slightly faded, 7 1/2 x 5 in.
