E. Thomas Art for Sale at Auction

Painter

Edward Kirkbride Thomas, often known as the artist E. Thomas, was active in Michigan and Minnesota in the mid-1800s, painting historical scenes and portraits of Native Americans. A soldier, E. Thomas was self-taught as an artist, a skill that he honed while stationed at Fort Snelling in the Minnesota Territory. While there, he painted landscape views from the fort, as well as figures from the local Chippewa and Sioux tribes. E. Thomas’s prints are a window into this time of tension between the indigenous tribes and the white settlers.

Artist E. Thomas painted with remarkable realism, recreating places like the Red Watermill and other scenes with oil paints. Although it was rare to see E. Thomas art for sale, it was often raffled off through the local newspaper at that time. Find more oil paintings offered at auction and online at Invaluable by talented artists.
