Leslie, 6th (Service) Battalion, King’s Own Scottish Borderers, who was taken Prisoner of War on the Western Front on 25 April 1918 British War and Victory Medals (27129 Pte J. A. Leslie. K.O.S.B.) in named card boxes of issue, and in O.H.M.S. postal envelope addressed to ‘Mr. J. A. Leslie, 6 Oakville Terrace, Leith.’, extremely fine (5) £160-£200 --- Thomas Leslie was born in North Leith, Midlothian, and was the son of Robert and Helen Leslie of 6 Oakville Terrace, Leith, Edinburgh. He served during the Great War with the 1st Battalion, Cameron Highlanders in the French theatre of War from 27 November 1914. Private Leslie was killed in action on the Western Front on 23 August 1915, and is buried in the Vermelles British Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France. John Anderson Leslie was the brother of the above. He served during the Great War with the 6th (Service) Battalion, King’s Own Scottish Borderers on the Western Front from 11 December 1915. They had a daughter and later a son John Marcus who was born in November 1830, the same month given for Julia's death.

Railways.- Specification of Letters Patent "An Invention 'Of certain Improvements in the construction of Tram or Railways and in the carriages to be used theron'", D.s. "Thomas Wilkinson," manuscript on vellum, 7 sheets, ruled in red, 7 watercolours of carriages and carriage ways, red wax seal, folds, slightly yellowed and creased, various sizes, approx. 570 × 530 mm, housed in a modern cloth box, 12th March 1839. ⁂ The Patent, numbered 7809, is summarised in Abridgement of Specifications Relating to Railways A.D. 1770-1863, HMSO, London 1868: "The invention consists in providing for the 'locomotive engine' separate rails of a substance of such a nature and so disposed 'as to cause the working wheels of the engine to have a firmer grasp than they can have upon the iron surface on which the' train runs'."
