Landscape Oil Painting by renowned listed American landscape artist Alfred Thompson Bricher (1837-1908) | Entitled “Grand Manan Island” | 19th Century | Oil on Canvas | Hand Signed by the Artist in Lower Right | Housed in an original period frame | Alfred Thompson Bricher (1837-1908) was one of the last painters of the famed Hudson River School. Master of the seascape, Alfred Thompson Bricher spent his career traveling the coast of New England and Canada and the length of the Mississippi, capturing the banks of the mighty river and the shores of the chilly Atlantic in exquisite detail. Largely self-taught, Bricher was meticulously attentive to details—like tiny seagulls against sheer cliffs or foam-capped cresting waves—and the atmospheric effects of sunlight. He emphasized the transcendent beauty of nature in his works, painting scenes that were both naturalistic and sublime. Bricher often spent summers in Grand Manan in New Brunswick, Canada and produced several important paintings of the area.
