David Croal Thomson Sold at Auction Prices

b. 1855 - d. 1930

It is believed that this work was painted by Thomson whilst with Paul Cezanne (1839-1906) whilst at Aix-en-Provence, France. David Croal Thomson was an influential and well connected picture dealer and painter, editor and critic, biographer and journalist. His contribution to magazines are considerable and his published books substantial. From 1898-1908 Thomson was connected with the London House of Agnew, and a partner in the firm for six years. From 1909-1918 he served as a partner in the French Gallery, and went on to become the sole proprietor of Barbizon House from 1918-1924.
