Diana Thorne (American, 1894 - 1963), "The Immigrants Await Their Fate," lithograph on paper, signed lower right and dedicated at lower left to "Mrs. Hattie Frankel," measures 12 x 18.50 inches to the matt opening, overall 19 x 25 inches framed. CONDITION: Good, a spot or two, frame with wear. A noted dog painter, illustrator and author, she studied in Germany as well as England, she became noted in this country in the 1920s, beginning commercial artwork in New York City in 1929. She illustrated and sometimes authored around fifty children's books about dogs and animal life. A sportswoman and dog owner herself, she received much acclaim for her dog etchings in which she captures motions and actions of the animals.

Diana Thorne (Russian, 1895 - 1963), watercolor, "Hitchcock in Action," 1936, signed in lower left corner, titled on verso. Painting depicts Tommy Hitchcock Jr. (1900-1944), a famous polo player from Long Island, NY. He was posthumously inducted into the Museum of Polo and Hall of Fame after his death by air crash during WWII. Dimensions are: 23 5/8 inches tall X 19 1/8 inches wide. All measurements are approximate. Artist Biography: Diana Thorne was primarily known as an artist that depicted animals, mainly dogs, and sports. Her paintings of sports were highly valued because of her ability to show action and motion.
