        NILS THORSSON (Eslöv, Sweden, 1898 - Copenhagen, 1975). Table, 1970s. Polychrome wood. Shows signs of use. Needs refinishing. Measurements: 73 x 120 x 120 cm. Table designed by Nils Thorsson. On legs with a semi-cylindrical section sits a square top, all in black polychrome wood. In this piece, the formal purity of Scandinavian furniture is allied with the new pop trends of the sixties and seventies. Nils Thorsson was a renowned ceramist and designer. His talent for the decorative arts was reflected in the prizes he received at competitions such as the 1925 Paris Universal Exhibition. He was later artistic director of the Royal Porcelain Factory until 1969. In his later years he also devoted himself to furniture design, of which there remain notable examples such as the table shown here.

        NILS THORSSON (Eslöv, 1898 - Copenhagen, 1975). Set of six chairs, ca. 1970. Polychrome wood. Slight wear marks. Measurements: 77 x 45 x 52 cm. Set of six chairs designed by Nils Thorsson. The combination of red and black, together with the rounded profiles and the laminated legs show the happy confluence between the formal purification of Scandinavian furniture and the new pop trends of the sixties and seventies. Nils Thorsson was a renowned ceramist and designer. His talent for the decorative arts was reflected in the prizes he won at competitions such as the 1925 Paris Universal Exhibition. He was later artistic director of the Royal Porcelain Factory until 1969. In his later years he also devoted himself to furniture design, of which there remain notable examples such as the chairs shown here.

"Thorsson begann seine Karriere bei Royal Copenhagen als Lehrling im Jahr 1912 und wurde 1917 Designer.         Mid century modern Denmark Danish glazed stoneware lidded jewelry trinket, ring, coin storage box by Nils Thorsson ( Danish, 1898 - 1975 ) for Royal Copenhagen in their Baca series ~ circa 1960's. Thorsson was a ceramicist, silversmith and painter. Box graced with abstract forms and designs with a matte textured finish. Signed ~ stamped on the underside as shown. Condition: Good overall condition having normal surface wear. Estate fresh to the market.         NILS THORSSON (Eslöv, Sweden, 1898 - Copenhagen, 1975). Table, 1970s. Polychrome wood. Shows signs of use. Needs refinishing. Measurements: 73 x 120 x 120 cm. Table designed by Nils Thorsson. On legs with a semi-cylindrical section sits a square top, all in black polychrome wood. In this piece, the formal purity of Scandinavian furniture is allied with the new pop trends of the sixties and seventies. Nils Thorsson was a renowned ceramist and designer. His talent for the decorative arts was reflected in the prizes he received at competitions such as the 1925 Paris Universal Exhibition. He was later artistic director of the Royal Porcelain Factory until 1969. In his later years he also devoted himself to furniture design, of which there remain notable examples such as the table shown here.

        NILS THORSSON (Eslöv, 1898 - Copenhagen, 1975). Set of six chairs, ca. 1970. Polychrome wood. They show marks of use. In need of refinishing. Measurements: 77 x 45 x 52 cm. Set of six chairs designed by Nils Thorsson. The combination of red and black, together with the rounded profiles and the laminated legs show the happy confluence between the formal purification of Scandinavian furniture and the new pop trends of the sixties and seventies. Nils Thorsson was a renowned ceramist and designer. His talent for the decorative arts was reflected in the prizes he won at competitions such as the 1925 Paris Universal Exhibition. He was later artistic director of the Royal Porcelain Factory until 1969.
