Schneeballschlacht. -- Öl auf Leinwand, doubliert. 43 x 53,5 cm. Unten rechts signiert "L. Till". Um 1860. -- -- Der Sohn des Malers Johann Till d.Ä. erlernte das Malerhandwerk zunächst im Ateilier des Vaters, bevor er seine Ausbildung an der Wiener Kunstakademie unter Joseph von Führich aufnahm und die Meisterklasse bei Leopold Kupelwieser besuchte. Nach Reisen nach Deutschland und Frankreich, sowie einem Studienaufenthalt in Rom etablierte er sich als Historienmaler, widmete sich aber in einem bedeutenden Teil seines Œuvres auch Kinderdarstellungen. -- -- - Wir bitten darum, Zustandsberichte zu den Losen zu erfragen, da der Erhaltungszustand nur in Ausnahmefällen im Katalog angegeben ist. -- - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalogue.

Oil on canvas Austria, mid-19th century Leopold Till (1829-1893) – Austrian painter Signed in the lower right ‘Till Leopold’ Dimensions: 39.5 x 49 cm Richly ornamented frame: 63 x 72.5 cm Good condition This oil painting by the Austrian artist Leopold Till shows in the center three seated well-dressed men around a table. Two of them are playing cards, while the other is absorbed in a paperwork. Another man who has just entered the room and who is standing behind the table glances at the cards. Condition: In the lower right of the painting is the artist’s signature ‘Till Leopold’. On reverse, the stretcher shows an old handwritten label. The painting is overall in good condition. The varnished surface shows craquelure as well as tiny touch-ups in the area of the coat of the man on the right. The very decorative frame shows signs of age and wear. The framed dimensions are 63 x 72.5 cm, while the canvas itself measures 39.5 x 49 cm. Leopold Till (1829-1893) Leopold Till was born 1829 in Prague. At first, he was taught by his father, also a painter, but in 1844 he joined the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. There he studied history painting. He was then commissioned to paint frescoes in the Belvedere of Queen Anna in Prague. Later in his life, Leopold Till mostly focused on genre paintings and exhibited his works with the Austrian Art Association.
