      Bernard Tjalkuri was born by the Waltja rockhole in the bush close to the homeland centre of Kunumata in the far north west of the Piltantjatjara Lands in South Australia. Bernard lived a traditional nomadic life in the desert prior to contact with Europeans. He remembers seeing whitefellas travelling through his country as they headed west to the Warburton Mission when he was a young man. Bernard has the authority to paint many stories associated with his traditional country He is an important community elder with a wealth of knowledge of the Law.       This painting by Aboriginal artitst Bernard Tjalkuri is about a sacred place, Irmirka, where native quondong trees are found. Quondong is a type of Australian native peach. Men and women gather together to perform a ceremony associated with the quondong. There is also a big rock hole here. Bernard Tjalkuri is one of the most respected Elders from the APY region at the top of South Australia. He is considered to be one of Tjungu Palya's most collectible artists, and his works are represented in public museums, including the National Gallery of Australia and the Art Gallery of South Australia.
