He has won numerous international awards, including being the first recipient of the Henri Cartier-Bresson Award. Towell's work among the Mennonite communities in Mexico and Ontario has been documented in the Phaidon book The Mennonites, published in 2000. The negative was produced in 1997 and this print is dated October 8, 1998.
