      EUNICE MAKEPEACE TOWLE Washington, D.C./New Hampshire, 1806-1894 Portrait of John C. Calhoon wearing a black frock coat and a black stock. Relined, but an accompanying photograph taken pre-restoration shows the work was signed verso "Painted from life by Mrs. Towle 1840". Eunice Makepeace Towle was married to a prominent physician who attended to numerous presidents and legislators. Oil on canvas, 29" x 25". Framed 36" x 30".
