The work was created in 1997, shortly before the famous conductor passed away. Further casts are now held by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Concert Hall in Budapest. Nikolai Tregor’s sculpture fascinates with an incredible expressiveness. The musical virtuoso is portrayed with a serious and thoughtful facial expression. Condition: The Bronze is in perfect condition. It is mounted on a sandstone base (14 x 20 x 20 cm). The bust is signed ‘Nikolai Tregor’ on the left collar. The dimensions excluding the base are 62 x 41 x 39 cm. Georg Solti (1912-1997) Georg Solti, son of a Hungarian Jewish family of merchants, first studied in Budapest under Ernst von Dohnányi, Béla Bartók and others. In the 1930s he was assistant to Arturo Toscanini, one of the greatest conductors of his time. In 1946, Solti became director of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. Later he directed the concerts of the Frankfurt Museum Association, the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden in London and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The virtuoso conducted every major orchestra in the world. Solti was honored with numerous awards during his lifetime and in 1971 he was raised to the peerage. It shows two female nudes at the lower end, stretching their bodies with spread hands and orange fingernails in front of a French door. Shadowy faces and further hands appear behind the glass as if they would react on the movements of the women. The painting reminds of Tregor's expressive sculptures, whose surfaces similarly oscillate in the light. The erotic tension of the models is noticeably enhanced by the neon-colored accentuations on their bodies. The painting is in very good condition.
