        A drawing study of a male figure from the pen of Jiří Trnka. This painter, draftsman, printmaker and illustrator left a lasting mark not only on Czech animated film, but also created unique book illustrations and theater puppets. His main artistic focus was illustration and stage design, the most well-known of which are the book illustrations of Jan Karafiát's “Broučci” (Fireflies), fairy tales by Erben and the Grimm brothers and more. He painted landscapes, figures and bouquets, and created children's toys. In 1940, the Czech Academy of Sciences and Art bestowed its award on him for his work for children.         A still life study by the famous Czech artist Jiří Trnka with an interesting detail of a beetle. Jiri Trnka was an all-around artist who is known as an excellent painter, graphic artist, sculptor and book illustrator (Misa Kulicka/Misha the Bear 1939, Broučci/Fireflies 1941, Český Betlém/Czech Nativity Scene 1943, Pohádky tisíce a jedné noci/Stories from One Thousand One Nights 1956, Pohádky Hanse Christiana Andersena/The Tales of Hans Christian Andersen, Pohádky bratří Grimmů/Grimms' Fairy Tales 1961, Staré pověsti české/Ancient Czech Legends, Jan Werich's Fimfárum, etc.). He wrote and illustrated the book Zahrada (The Garden, 1962), which was later adapted for film. Trnka was a founding father of Czech puppetry and puppet film, which earned him worldwide acclaim.         A puppet created by Jíří Trnka for a fairy tale based on a design by Hans Christian Andersen - The Emperor's Nightingale. He represents one of the servants at the imperial court. The film won the Golden Leopard at the Locarno International Film Festival. The stop-motion animation of the film places high demands on the quality and mobility of the puppets, which Jiří Trnka elaborated to the smallest detail.
