        Trotter (Thomas) Medicina Nautica: an Essay on the Diseases of Seamen..., 3 vol., first edition, with half-title in vol.2 and engraved plate in vol.3 (bound as frontispiece), lacking engraved portrait frontispiece, lacking 4pp. advertisements at end of vol.2, faint trace of library stamp to titles and plate but unobtrusive, occasional light foxing but generally clean, plate a little offset on title of vol.3, N4 in vol.1 and L8 in vol.2 torn and repaired, a few other minor marginal tears, modern half speckled calf, black morocco labels, [Wellcome V, 301], 8vo, T.Cadell, Jun. & W.Davies, 1797-1803. ⁂ Important work on the health and conditions of sailors on board ship, with accounts of the various diseases encountered and recommendations for improvements in living conditions and sanitation. The work led to the adoption of taking limes to sea as a prevention against scurvy and of smallpox vaccination amongst sailors.
