Mich, Nuove opere di Francesco Unterperger, di prossima pubblicazione in Studi trentini. Arte Allievo del fratello maggiore Michelangelo (Cavalese, 1695 ; Vienna, 1758), Francesco appartiene a una famiglia di artisti originari della Val Pusteria attivi durante il XVIII secolo in Trentino Alto Adige e in Austria. Il pittore conseguì una propria autonomia nel corso del terzo decennio quando realizzerà le tele dedicate alla vita di Santa Chiara per il convento delle Clarisse di Bressanone, la pala di Sant'Antonio abate per la parrocchiale di Cavalese nel 1734, e le tele con San Giovanni Nepomuceno e San Giorgio per la parrocchiale di Vipiteno (1736). Tuttavia, nel 1740 si trasferì a Venezia frequentando la bottega di Giovanni Battista Pittoni fino al 1745 e, in questi anni, le sue opere manifestano l'influenza del celebre maestro e le suggestioni di Sebastiano Ricci, esprimendo una maggior vivacità cromatica e stesure con impasti più densi. Agli anni di poco successivi si colloca, quindi, l'esecuzione della tela qui presentata, che Elvio Mich pone intorno al 1750 grazie al confronto con la Madonnina conservata nella chiesa dei Francescani di Caldaro/Kaltern (fig. 1) che, come attesta la cronaca del convento pubblicata da Nicolò Rasmo, fu donata dall'artista nel 1752 (Cfr. Rasmo, 1977, p. 223, tav. X). L'opera, pur contenuta nelle dimensioni, mostra una sorprendente forza qualitativa in cui la tradizione culturale dell'autore si coniuga meravigliosamente agli stilemi veneziani dell'epoca con raffinati esiti rocaille. Francesco Sebaldo Unterperger (Cavalese 1706 - 1766) Ester e Assuero Olio su tela 108 x 158 cm Interessanti e convincenti confronti attributivi si riscontrano con le Storie di Santa Chiara dipinte per il convento delle Clarisse di Bressanone, oppure con la tela Cristo e la Maddalena conservata nell'abbazia di Monte Maria a Malles in Val Venosta. Gli storici concordano nel sostenere una presenza del pittore trentino a Venezia e un suo apprendistato presso la bottega di Giambattista Pittoni. Le opere di questo mutevole pittore partono dalle tonalità perlacee, probabilmente desunte dal fratello Michelangelo, anch’egli pittore, e maturano in un colorismo veneto derivato dalla sua permanenza veneziana. Stilisticamente l’influenza pittoniana si averte attorno alla metà del XVIII secolo quando Francesco perse contatto col fratello, ormai stabilmente a Vienna. Intorno al 1750 andarono moltiplicandosi i dipinti ispirati da Pittoni, quindi passando a effetti chiaroscurali più morbidi e ad una paletta più accesa e in linea col nuovo stile rocaille. Però, per comprendere l’arte di Francesco Sebaldo, artista eclettico bisogna ricordare che egli ebbe modo di confrontarsi col pittore altoatesino Paolo, Paul, Troger, pittore dal forte sentimentalismo patetico, nato nella Val Pusteria da una famiglia di artisti, con formazione artistica a Venezia dove, all'inizio del secondo decennio del Settecento, fu in contatto con pittori quali Piazzetta e Federico Bencovich. Inoltre come la tela, Madonna e San Francesco conservata presso la Comunità di Cavalese di Nicola Grassi, già in collezione del nostro pittore, egli al pari del fratello Michelangelo, ebbe molta ammirazione per il pittore friulano. Das hier angebotene Gemälde des Österreichischen Malers Franz Richard Unterberger lässt sich in dessen späte Schaffensphase um 1900 datieren und zeigt uns mit dieser Ansicht Venedigs eines der geschätztesten Motive im Werk des Künstlers. Dargestellt ist eine belebte Uferpromenade jenseits des Canale Giudecca, die den dargestellten Flaneuren, gleichwohl wie dem Betrachter dieses Kunstwerkes, das weltberühmte Panorama der Schwimmenden Stadt eröffnet. Gekonnt fängt Unterberger in der für ihn typischen malerischen Leichtigkeit die Örtlichkeit, welche er auf seinen zahlreichen Italienreisen seit den 1870er Jahren kennenlernte, ein. Über die breite Promenade, flankiert von typischer venezianischer Wohnhausarchitektur zur Rechten und dem offenen Wasser zur Linken, wandert der Blick des Betrachters über die bevölkerte Molo ins Bildinnere. Dort sind zentral die mächtige Hauptkuppel der Basilika Santa Maria della Salute, sowie der Campanile di San Marco als unverkennbare Wahrzeichen Venedigs zu erblicken. Die mit pastosem Pinselduktus von Unterberger meisterhaft gesetzten farbenfrohen Akzente, wie beispielsweise der rote Schirm der Dame im Bildvordergrund, beleben die Szenerie und vermitteln uns das dargestellte fröhliche Treiben des venezianischen Lebens in der mittäglichen Hitze. Eine stilistische Analyse dieses Kunstwerkes lässt den Schluss zu, dass die finale Ausarbeitung des Gemäldes noch nicht vollkommen abgeschlossen war. So scheint vereinzelt eine weitere Hand dem Bild seine heutige Erscheinung verliehen zu haben. Bei dem hier vorliegenden Los kommt Unterbergers malerische Fähigkeit dennoch voll zur Geltung. Durch einen geschickten Wechsel zwischen malerischer Präzision und flüchtiger Andeutung vermag Unterberger ein lebendiges Wechselspiel beim Betrachten auszulösen und gleichzeitig die Fantasie des Rezipienten zu mobilisieren und beweist damit eine künstlerische Qualität, die in der Salonmalerei des 19. Jahrhunderts nur selten wiederzufinden ist. Und in der Tat versteht es der Österreicher wie nur wenige andere Künstler seiner Zeit, die Stimmung des pittoresken Venedigs und die flimmernde Luft des mediterranen Sommers treffend auf die Leinwand zu bannen. ---------------

Prof. Dr. Sybille Moser-Ernst bestätigt die Eigenhändigkeit nach Prüfung des Originals und ordnet die Komposition um 1858 und somit dem Frühwerk von Franz Richard Unterberger zu. Insbesondere der bühnenartige, beinahe symmetrische Aufbau der Landschaft lassen sich gemäss Moser-Ernst, als typische Merkmale des gebürtigen Innsbrucker Malers identifizieren. Die Darstellung besticht durch die Sicherheit des tektonischen Aufbaus und der Behandlung des Lichts der südlich anmutenden Atmosphäre. Später wird das rosa Glühen, wie Moser-Ernst es bezeichnet, zu einem Markenzeichen der salonfähigen Landschaftsbilder Franz Richard Unterbergers werden.

La nostra opera trova punti di sicura attinenza nel confronto tra il nostro Gesù bambino e il Divin Bambino della pala di San Vincenzo, 1752, Chiesa di Falzes; oppure col Gesù della pala “Madonna dà il Carine a San Simone Stock della Parrocchiale di San Nicolò d’Ega, realizzata nella seconda metà degli anni ’50 del XVIII secolo. Questo doppio dettaglio, oltre alla morbida e pastosa pennellata con cui è realizzato il perlaceo corpicino del Gesù, memore di Michelangelo Unterperger, ci permettono di datare l’opera attorno al sesto decennio del Settecento. A suffragare la tesi l’imponente figura del San Giuseppe che pare una trascrizione vernacolare dell’alto linguaggio scenico pittoniano
