A native of Stockholm, Sweden, Theodore Valenkamph became an East Coast marine painter. He emigrated to the United States and settled in Gloucester, Massachusetts in 1899. He was known for marine painting, rigged ships and landscapes.

      THEODORE VICTOR CARL VALENKAMPF (American, 1868-1924) FITTING OUT ON THE RAILS, GLOUCESTER. Oil on wood panel detailed scene shows two side by side schooners being refitted in dry dock on long wood rails. A factory is seen on right side, boathouse is seen with flag flying and a three-mast tall ship is moored off land. A small raft is moored to large dock with winch tower. All under a pink, white and blue sky. We are told that this is a section of Gloucester Harbor. Signed lower right "T Valenkampf". Housed in a fine gesso decorated gilt modern frame with gilt liner. SIZE: 9-1/4" x 17". CONDITION: Minor inpainting, very good. 9-93971 (4,000-6,000)
